In the refinement of chin there are four basic considerations. Size of the chin is increased or decreased. Chin is brought forward or pushed backward. Sometimes two procedures are combined. In reduction mentoplasty the size of the chin is reduced either by intra or extra-oral approach. Cutting it or rasping it excises extra bone. In augmentation mentoplasty enhancement is done either with prosthetic material or autogenous cartilage or bone graft.

Operation takes 1-2 hours depending on extent or surgery.

General or Local anesthesia is used to perform this procedure.

Pain, swelling, bruising, is common. Extrusion, malposition, and absorption are the main complication, which may require additional surgery.

Back to work in a week time. Exercise after a month.
